Optimize Urea Production by Gaining More Transparency

Solid urea, primarily used as a fertilizer, is produced in the form of urea prills or urea granules. To ensure efficiency in the urea production process, transparency is essential. The first step in gaining more transparency is the online measurement of production rates, for instance, after prilling or drying. Measuring the production rates of urea prills is a key step towards process optimization.

“Advanced mass flow measurement technology offers real-time monitoring, streamlining operations and enhancing productivity.”

What Technology is Best for Measuring Urea Production Rates?

The integration of online process measurement techniques in urea production is crucial for maintaining optimal production rates. Due to the harsh and corrosive atmosphere in urea plants, not every mass flow system is equally suited. Conventional belt weighing technologies or impact plates often face issues and require frequent maintenance or recalibration. A non-contact measurement technology using a closed sensor system, such as those in the DYNA product range, is the preferred solution for this industry.

Urea Flow Meter from DYNA

Production rates of urea prills or urea granules have been successfully measured with the DYNAmas flow meter. This solid flow sensor is based on capacitance measurement technology. It can measure urea production rates from a few tons per hour up to 300 t/h or more. The measurement is typically carried out on free-falling urea prills or granules, for example, after screw conveyors, conveyor belts, or directly below silos and hoppers. The DYNAmas flow meter can also be installed in pneumatic lines.

How Urea Production Rates are Measured

The DYNAmas sensor features a closed and robust design. Its main advantage is that varying particle sizes of the urea prills or varying bulk densities do not affect the measurement performance. Thus, the DYNAmas urea flow meter offers highly accurate flow rate measurements over time, without the need for maintenance or recalibration. With no wear parts, the operational costs for the flow meter are kept at an absolute minimum.
